Commentary on the Toponym:	Kommentar (Talbert): Below the symbol, "Hoc e(st) templ(vm) asclepy" / "This is a temple of Asclepius." Miller, Itineraria, Sp. 876: Balacris, Hoc est templum Asclepy (Nicht Asclepy (Bg)), Balacris (Ra), Φάλακρα (St), Balatris (Gu – am Meere); j. Sidi Raffa (Apolloquelle); nicht Ras Sem. Unweit davon am Meere liegt Phycus, Φυκοῦς (St, Pt, Stad, Pl), ein Kleiner Hafenplatz an einer Bucht und einem gleichnamigen Vorgebirge; j. Ras Sem. 21. Kommentar (RE): Balagrai (Βαλάγραι), Stadt der Kyrenaika, westlich von Kyrene, zwischen Kainopolis und [2815] Apollonia mit einem berühmten Heiligtum des Asklepios, Paus. II 26, 9. Synes. ep. 104. 131 p. 244. 268 (nennt die Bewohner Βαλαγρῖται); Balacra Tab. Peut.; Balacris Geogr. Rav. III 4. V 6 = Balatris Guido 91. Further, at Balagrae of the Cyreneans there is an Asclepius called Healer, who like the others came from Epidaurus. From the one at Cyrene was founded the sanctuary of Asclepius at Lebene, in Crete. There is this difference between the Cyreneans and the Epidaurians, that whereas the former sacrifice goats, it is against the custom of the Epidaurians to do so.
