(Namnetes, Plin. nat. 4,107). Keltisches Volk am rechten Ufer des unteren Liger (h. Loire), der die N. von den Pictones trennte (Strab. 4,2,1). Ihr Gebiet lag zw. Liger, Vilaine und Semnon (Ille-et-Vilaine), ihr Hauptort war Condevincum, in dessen h. Namen Nantes der Name der N. fortlebt (Ptol. 2,8,9: Κονδιούϊγκον; 2,8,6 irrtümlich Σαμνῖται), ihr Haupthafen Portus Nemetum (Tab. Peut 2,2; vgl. CIL XIII 3105). Sie waren z.Z. Caesars mit den Veneti verbündet (Caes. Gall. 3,9,10). In der Kaiserzeit rechneten sie zur Gallia Lugdunensis (Notitia Galliarum 3,5: civitas Namnetum). Im Gebiet der N. hat man zahlreiche röm. Straßen festgestellt. Inschr.: CIL XIII p. 483.
