Souk el-Abiod (Itin. Anton. 52,4; 56,6; 58,3: Pupput bzw. Putput der Hs. P; Tab. Peut. 6,2: P.; Geogr. Rav. 88,43: Pulpud; Guido, Geographia 132,64: Pulpite). Der verm. punisch beeinflußte Ort war seit Commodus (176-192 n. Chr.) colonia (CIL VIII Suppl. 4, 24092 f.: Pupput; 24095: colonia Puppit(anorum)). P. war Vaterstadt des Juristen P. Salvius Iulianus [1] (CIL VIII Suppl. 4, 24094). Für das J. 484 n. Chr. ist ein episcopus Puppitanus bezeugt (CIL VIII Suppl. 4, 24091). Weitere Inschr.: CIL VIII Suppl. 4, 24096 f.; AE 1995, 1656. Huß, Werner PUTPUT a station in Africa Proper, 12 M. P. from Neapolis (Nabel) (Itin. Anton.; Peut. Tab.), which has been identified by Barth (Wanderungen, pp. 142, 143) with Hámâmât. Sir G. Temple (Excursions, vol. ii. p. 10) considers it to be SIAGUL (Σιαγούλ, Ptol. 4.3.9), because of the two inscriptions with “Civitas Siagitana,” which Shaw found at Hámâmât. (Trav. p. 169.)
