Kommentar (Talbert):
This name ends below island #85. My inclination is to imagine that it refers to the island to the left with a dab of red on it (thus suggesting a longer, rather than shorter, name). Consequently, I am much less inclined than Miller 603-604 to trust Welser (1598; see Plate 4), who shows that island with the name Icaria, and then a further island to its right named Lesbos; I see no trace of the name Icaria, nor of a further island.

Miller´s lithograph (498) has no justification for coloring the entire island. Rather, there is only a dab of red on it, which probably reflects no more than carelessness on the copyist´s part. Observe similar miscellaneous dabs to the left (above Cortin[.]), and to the right above Blenna (8C2).

[T.W:.] Die Inselumrandung ist heute noch, entgegen Talberts Behauptung zu erkennen. Von den Beschriftungsresten ist heute nur "[-?-]os" zu entziffern. Bei Welser findet sich "Lesbos", bei Scheyb "L[...]sbos".
In antiken Quellen sind folgende Namensformen belegt:
